New travel centre under way

Västerås has some ambitious redevelopment plans for its existing train station. With the plans well underway, the first stage of the project is estimated to be up and running in 2017.

The goals are to create an attractive and efficient travel centre that focuses on travellers and visitors, to erase the boundaries between the city and the water and to establish a highly accessible meeting place that is safe and welcoming.

The travel centre is part of an urban development scheme that includes the major rejuvenation of the entire area and goes under the name 3B – Build Away the Barriers. This project aims at linking the city centre with the new, vibrant neighbourhoods alongside Lake Mälaren.
